The Dignity for All: LGBTI Assistance Program provides emergency assistance; security, opportunity, and advocacy rapid response grants (SOAR grants); and security assessment and training to human rights defenders (HRDs) and civil society organizations (CSOs) under threat or attack due to their work for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) human rights.

Emergency assistance applications can be submitted in English, Arabic, French, Chinese, Farsi, and Spanish.

Grant programs are an important element of many organizations’ response efforts. Grants have been used to: improve security (through the provision of surveillance cameras, bars on windows, security guards, etc.); to purchase equipment (radios, computers, mobile phones); to provide safe transport to meetings or court hearings; to pay for legal and medical fees; to support evacuations to safe houses or; to support temporary relocation for a women human rights defender (WHRD) and her family to another city or country. The grants and technical assistance of the Fund for Global Human Rights are focused on crucial and difficult work that otherwise might falter for lack of resources, bring financial stability to human rights groups, and help human rights defenders increase their visibility and impact. The Fund supports a wide range of human rights issues, such as defending indigenous land rights in Guatemala, promoting women’s rights in Morocco, pressing for accountability for war crimes in West Africa, and ending the practice of bonded labor (a form of slavery) in India.

These strategies for defending human rights activists on the ground range from physically extracting activists who find themselves in dangerous situations, to organizing campaigns calling international attention to activists under attack, to providing them with training on how to operate safely on the internet and maintain secure and private communications with their fellow activists.

The Lifeline Embattled CSO Assistance Fund provides emergency financial assistance to civil society organizations (CSOs) under threat or attack and advocacy support responding to broader threats to civil society.

Lifeline supports a variety of CSOs that conduct advocacy, promote and protect human rights, and/or act in a watchdog capacity, including human rights organizations, journalist associations, student groups, labor unions, think tanks, and others.
