The idea of creating a Women’s Fund in Central America was concretized in 2003, as a feminist alternative to face the adverse scenario for development cooperation that was foreseen, especially for social movements and grassroots organizations. In this context, the Fondo Centroamericano de Mujeres (FCAM) is born to support grassroots organizations lead and formed by women who work towards the promotion and advocacy of human rights. Specifically, women’s right to physical and emotional integrity, social and economic justice and to participate as leaders in the decisions that affect their lives and their communities.
