CODEFAM was founded on September 9th 1981, by 25 family members of people that were either imprisoned, disappeared, or murdered due to political reasons during the Salvadoran Civil War (1979-1992). It has fought for justice, truth, and the psychological healing of Salvadorans whose relatives suffered acute human rights violations. After the peace accords were signed in 1992, CODEFAM widened it’s mission to include promoting, educating and defending Human Rights, and creating public awareness of families that suffered violations.

  • Coordinate Against Police and Institutional Repression (CORREPI)

CORREPI (Coordinate Against Police and Institutional Repression) is a Human Rights organization, with the specific aim of fighting against police repression, which we understand a part of institutional violence. Most of the founding members were former human rights activists, who had become aware of the seriousness of this problem without finding a proper tool to fight against it in other organizations. Therefore we started to work together in 1991, focusing on police repression.
