The Network of Chinese Human Rights Defenders (CHRD) is a coalition of Chinese and international human rights non-governmental organizations. The network is dedicated to the promotion of human rights through peaceful efforts to push for democratic and rule of law reforms and to strengthen grassroots activism in China.

The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a unique process which involves a review of the human rights records of all UN Member States. The UPR is a State-driven process, under the auspices of the Human Rights Council, which provides the opportunity for each State to declare what actions they have taken to improve the human rights situations in their countries and to fulfil their human rights obligations. As one of the main features of the Council, the UPR is designed to ensure equal treatment for every country when their human rights situations are assessed.

UPR Info’s tutorials on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a unique mechanism of the Human Rights Council. It aims at raising awareness among governments, institutions and civil society on the modalities and goals of the UPR. In order to give you the tools to participate in the UPR, they have made three different tutorials, focused namely on: (1) the UPR Process, (2) states and (3) civil society (stakeholders).
